Praying for Healing

A couple of weeks ago at church I had a God moment just as I was heading out the door. I talked briefly to my friend Ros and she told me that she had a fairly brutal headache. I suddenly said that I wanted to pray for her and in the doorway of the building offered a short prayer for God to release healing into her body.

I have to admit that I forgot about the event later that day until today when Ros told me that when she got home that day she realized that her headache was all gone!

This is very encouraging because it demonstrates the power of prayer in the everyday-ness of life. A couple of things strike me about this:

  1. it was in the doorway, as both of us happened to be leaving. It wasn't at a special meeting and no oil was involved. I love healing meetings and anointing with oil, but my point is that this was in the normal hustle of life.
  2. There was a split-second prompting of the Holy Spirit to pray for her healing right then and there. What if I hadn't prayed? I'm not saying God wouldn't have healed her, but I certainly would have missed out on seeing God move in response to my prayer and having my heart and faith encouraged!

I am encouraged because:

  1. God acted directly in response to my prayer, which builds my faith for more prayer
  2. I have more faith to pray for healing and am looking forward to the next time
  3. I heard the simple prompting of the Spirit and acted in obedience.

Right now my prayer is that you would be stirred by reading this and that the Holy Spirit will give you some prompting to pray for the sick!
