Teaching

One of the things that I've been wanting to develop is my ability to teach my kids to pray. I spend a lot of time leading others in prayer and teaching and modelling prayer, but not so much with my kids. There are lots of reasons for this but they are really just excuses. Some better than others, but nevertheless, excuses.

I want my kids to grow up with a love for prayer. I know that they need to grow into it themselves and be led by the Spirit in their own way, but I'm often reminded of Pam's description from her childhood of having clear memories of her father praying in the living room early in the morning.

Tonight I made a positive step in that direction. Taking time to read the Bible with Rebekah and talk to her about prayer and then to actually pray with her and over her for some areas of her life. Rebekah is 10 now and she is definitely growing up and there is a window of opportunity to speak into her life that I'm eager to make the most of.

My work with House of Prayer Edmonton is important, but it's more important that I model prayer to my kids than to anyone else. May God continue to help me and give me wisdom to walk this out!
