Thoughts from Misty Edwards

Print Article I recently read this quote from IHOP-KC worship leader Misty Edwards and found it very impacting:
Worship ALWAYS grows boring if I focus on the music but when I focus on the Man I can play simple melodies for hours and not even notice.
Last year when I interviewed Justin Rizzo, one of my questions was about how he and Laura Hackett managed to keep singing the same songs over and over again without it becoming boring. (watch the video interview here)
I love the simplicity of Misty's answer. Our focus is what makes all the difference in the world. I have heard many worship leaders comment about how 'behind' Christian music is; that secular music is musically superior. I'm not a musician so I am in no position to comment about that either way.
The other thing about Misty's comment is that it implies a significant degree of spiritual revelation. Many Christians find it hard to connect with Jesus in the context of worship. I realize that sounds ridiculous because worship requires a focus and connection with Jesus.
As I look forward to going to my church tomorrow morning, I am excited to put into practice what Misty has talked about here!
